TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO
WINS IN CAYMAN ISLANDS 2008
A victorious seventy seven (77) member Purple Dragon Karate
team returned to Trinidad and Tobago. The champs exited the
customs area at Piarco airport from the front door on
Wednesday July 9th 2008, led by their world-renowned
coaches and
martial
arts
experts, Professor Don Jacob, Shihans Anthony Thompson and
Neal Hewitt.
Scores
of cheering family
members
and fans waited until the late hours of the night to welcome
the team home.
The
team's victory over the weekend was no easy task, to win a
total of one hundred and thirty four (134) medals and six
(6) grand championship trophies at the Grand Slam Martial
Arts Tournament held in the Grand Cayman Island on July 5th
2008.
In all
the Trinidad and Tobago team won the highest total of
medals at the tournament - forty nine (49) gold, twenty
nine(29) silver, thirty four (34) bronze and six (6) grand
championship trophies. The team, whose ages ranged from 6
years to 55 years, came up against some tough international
competition from USA, Canada, Jamaica, Brazil, British
Virgin Islands, Antigua, Dominica, Cayman Islands and
Grenada to name a few that "represented their country
successfully and at a very high standard", said a pleased
Don Jacob.
Out of the 77 competitors on the T&T team, 12 were from the
Purple Dragon Tobago branch and 65 from Trinidad.
“The
organization of the tournament in Grand Cayman was very
professional and the level and quality of competition was
top-class” said Purple Dragon Chief Instructor Professor Don
Jacob.
It was
an open tournament so the Trinidad and Tobago team came up against many other competitors. The level of sportsmanship
and discipline demonstrated by all the competitors was
excellent, and there were no serious injuries. Apart from
the normal
divisions of katas, sparring, weaponry and self defense,
there were also exciting team demonstrations, synchronized
forms and synchronized weapons.

# 119/ 120 Testing
Purple
Dragon has accomplished yet another successful Black Belt
exam. Seventeen (17) out of (17) candidates from 2 countries
successfully participated and attained their black belts in
the 121st Grading.
We call
on all Purple Dragon countries to organize the usual victory
training for the following candidates at their branches on
behalf of their tremendous success. Again! the THEME for
that grading was “Bring and Keep Your Heart into the Dojo”
and "Bring Two Solutions to Every Problem".
The next
Grading will be held in August 2009. Again limited spaces
are available, so branch chiefs are asked to apply on behalf
of your students early.

the first African American President Mr. Barack Obama became
the president of the US "WOW", to see the coming together of
all people was breathtaking.
looking back in 2008,
It was
Georgia
on our minds: Nov

people", many purple dragon black belts traveled to Georgia
from different parts of the US to train with Professor
Jacob and Sensei Daniel Jacob to support instructor
Chris Coxall's students. Then we all went to be inducted
into the Koroshi-do Hall of Fame in Georgia, where we were
invited as special guests. It was an experience to talk
about with the following people, as there was a group of

Tampa was
next on deck, Nov. 11th – Nov 13th. Sensei Albert and
Instructor Candia and little Zoë made the 4 hour drive
to take Sensei Daniel and Professor Jacob there. They
trained with us and then made another 4 hour drive back to
South Florida, leaving the rest of hosting to Senseis
Clara Montoute, Sensei Gary Montoute and Instructor
Scott Coryea after a wonderful stay. At 3:45 am we were
picked up from our Hotel by Sensei Gary and it was to our
final trip in the U.S.

We stayed 5 hours at the
Miami
Airport,
waiting for our Cayman flight. We arrived and were greeted
by Sensei Floyd Baptiste, Sensei Geddes Hislop, and
Instructor Pitta. We were taken to the Chicken Chicken
restaurant to have a meal. Sensei Floyd Baptiste arranged a
massage therapy at our Hotel for Sensei Daniel and I. The
following days were full of gradings and seminars.
The time
had finally come to say bye for now to every one. The one
month on the road with Sensei Daniel was great! Thanks to
all the Purple Dragon Heads of States for your love, loyalty
and friendship.
Thanks a million, Professor. Jacob.
looking back in 2008,
November 24th 26th :
It was
4am when
the phone call came true, it was Shihan Anthony Thompsons
voice, "Professor, this is your wakeup call", we met at the
Piarco International Airport in Trinidad. We boarded a LIAT
flight, the first stop was
Tortola,
where we were greeted by Sensei Abeana Baptiste and
Instructor Vern Turnbull. A brand new Mercedes Benz was
parked to take us to our hotel, we were invited to be seated
by our host and driver Sensei Abeana. In the evening Shihan
Thompson and I went to the Dojo, we had a successful grading
and seminar in B.V.I. for the two Purple Dragon Branches.
looking back in 2008,
Report
from Tortola instructors:
We had an energetic and informative Purple Dragon seminar
and an awesome Purple Dragon grading. Professor and Shihan
have left us on a high here in
Tortola.
Sensei Abeana Baptiste and I, Instructor
Vern Turnbull sincerely thank Professor Jacob and Shihan
Thompson for their love, energy and inspiration while here.
looking back in 2008,
November 26th 28th :
We had a 4 hour delay on our connection in
Antigua
to Dominica, on arrival we were met by our host Instructor
Shannah Robin. For the first time ever the Professor and
Shihan got sick while traveling for the Grading and Seminar
in Dominica. When we arrived at our hotel we had a fifteen
minutes rest and were read to go.
