Power yoga – an oxymoron? No way!
Purple Dragon is the new Promised Land.
Our Ashtanga power yoga uses
postures that are the same or similar to other forms
of yoga; it’s the intensity of the stretch and the
speed of the program that turns this type of yoga from
a good stretching program into what many people are
adding to their normal workouts. It’s great for those
people who are overweight or recuperating from
accidents or surgery, people who have a
high-stress/high blood pressure lifestyle, senior
citizens and even high powered athletes.
Our set routine of simple but
vigorous postures is performed quickly enough to heat
the body, and it is high energy and very athletic. So
if the word ‘yoga’ makes you feel uncomfortable, we’ll
help you to understand how this 2000-year-old practice
can enhance your health and well being.
It is said that Ashtanga, the most
energetic form of yoga, was developed in India
centuries ago to give monks the stamina and endurance
to sit for hours in meditation or walk far distances.
"Ha" means Sanskrit for Sun; "Tha" means Sanskrit for
Moon. Yoga also means ‘Union with God’ and balancing
the mind body and spirit. This is exactly what is
practiced at Purple Dragon. The affirmations by the
Instructors along with the background meditation music
help the students to be very relaxed and feel the
power of being in charge of their own destiny.
Ashtanga yoga does not require
everyone to be super flexible. It builds physical
strength and can give you long lean toned muscles,
endurance to allow you to hold the yoga postures for
an extended number of breaths and the flexibility to
move your body in and out of the postures. Age is not
an obstacle, as senior students are allowed to work
their own body at their own speed.
A forty-five minute to one-hour
session with your qualified Purple Dragon Instructor
will give you a great workout that can leave you
feeling refreshed and energized. All you need is a
valid membership, a large towel or yoga mat, and loose
comfortable clothing, preferably cotton. You can also
get your yoga blocks, straps and gel mats by placing
an order with your Purple Dragon Instructor.
Ashtanga yoga is taught at the
majority of Purple Dragon branches around the world
for at least two days a week. We look forward to you
becoming a member or continuing your membership at one
of our locations. For any more information or if you
